WEEK 1: LESSON 2: Master Gu explains the power of LESS

LESSON 2: Master Gu explains the power of LESS

O Dao De Jing (c. 400 AC) é o texto central do Taoísmo.

Do the Dao Now

Last lesson, we looked at Daoist practice as a search for harmony. this time we’ll explore a closely related principle: moderation.

In our relentless quest for success, we often overlook the importance of moderation. We chase after wealth and fame, believing they will bring us happiness, only to find ourselves facing the same persistent problems and a stubborn sense of emptiness.

By practicing and embracing moderation, we can find contentment in the present, appreciate who we are and what we have, and get the whole joy out of life’s experiences.

Actions

  • Identify your excesses. Do you find yourself admitting or recognising imbalances?
    • “I’ve been working a lot lately”
    • “I haven’t seen any friends yet this month”
    • “I’ve really overindulged recently”
  • Practice stopping and letting go
    • Act on these thoughts as they surface
    • Seize the moment. Try to resist ‘one more minute’ or ‘one more slice’
    • Even something simple helps to develop discipline, and strengthens your grounding in the present
  • Can you make space to appreciate things?
    • Schedule time to spend singularly on something or with someone you miss; or even just for doing nothing
    • Consider letting go of things you don’t use or need

Less is more. When we reduce our desires and allow ourselves time in the present, we start to rediscover the joy in what we already have.

Happy explorations,

Master Gu
