So here's the plan: Whenever you feel like you are overwhelmed, stressed, or just can't go with the Flow—we're going to breathe. Don't look at me in that tone of voice just yet! Here's what you may not know about the very thing you're doing right now... English (and a number of other languages) is based on Latin. In Latin, there's a word that means breath, life force, universal energy, and spirit. That word is ‘spiritus’. Etymologists will tell you about even more languages that remind us that breath is synonymous with spirit. In India, there’s the word ‘Prana’, as in Pranayama. In Japan and Korea, we have the word ‘Ki’ as in Reiki or Aikido. So whenever the going gets rough, take a moment to step back and breathe. We can use simple breath work to calm our mind, bodies, and spirit. When we breathe mindfully, it can become a powerful tool to calm overwhelm, reduce stress, and allow us to get back into Flow. —David-Dorian Ross |
