Oftentimes people are so afraid of negativity that they have a hard time accepting they may actually have negative emotions. This leads to suppression, inner tensions, energy blockages and growing disconnection between the body and mind. In the Tao, we believe that emotions — both negative and positive — are just energy and the expression of our internal organs. For example, worry and anxiety are the natural expressions of our spleen. Anger and jealousy are the typical expressions of our liver. Fear may appear when our kidneys are out of balance. This doesn’t mean we should avoid or hide these emotions. Negative emotions are here to stay, and we can only accept that. What is within our power to do is to work with these energies and make them usable and accessible for daily life and happiness. When these toxic emotions are blocked within our energy systems, they can fester and create sickness there. In contrast, when we transform our negativity, we achieve more resources for wellness. Besides, positive emotions, when they are in excess, may be as dangerous as the negative ones. Balance is always the key.
